About This Course

This 6.5-hour course, built on a foundational understanding of water and soil science, provides design professionals with the knowledge and information needed to facilitate, improve, and maximize stormwater infiltration effectively. The course also discusses the use of Low-Impact Development techniques and examines numerous case studies.

Moving past foundational concepts, the course delves into the complex realities of designing, implementing, and maintaining high-performance stormwater infiltration systems. As urban development and climate variability place unprecedented stress on traditional water management infrastructure, effective infiltration has become critical for flood mitigation, water quality protection, and groundwater recharge. This deep dive explores the intricacies of advanced site characterization, including navigating challenging soil profiles, high groundwater tables, and highly constrained urban environments.

The curriculum examines sophisticated hydrologic modeling techniques, cutting-edge Best Management Practices (BMPs), and innovative green infrastructure designs tailored for suboptimal site conditions. Furthermore, the course addresses the vital, often-overlooked aspects of long-term system performance, focusing on advanced troubleshooting, lifecycle maintenance strategies to prevent clogging and failure, and navigating complex regulatory compliance frameworks.

Through the lens of real-world applications and advanced engineering solutions, this overview provides a comprehensive look at the sophisticated strategies required to optimize stormwater infiltration and ensure resilient, sustainable water management infrastructure.
