Amr Mohamed is a highly accomplished engineer, researcher, and educator with a strong blend of academic excellence and practical industry experience in the energy sector. He holds a Ph.D. in Power System Optimization from Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU), where he focused on advanced methodologies for enhancing the efficiency, resilience, and sustainability of modern power systems. Prior to that, he earned his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees with honors in Electrical Power Engineering from Cairo University, Egypt. Amr’s expertise spans a broad range of topics, including power system optimization, distribution system planning and operation, smart grid technologies, and the design and implementation of transactive energy markets. His research is driven by the evolving needs of future energy systems and the integration of distributed energy resources (DERs), energy storage, and digital platforms into the grid. In his academic role as an adjunct professor at TMU, Amr has mentored numerous graduate students and contributed to curriculum development in areas related to modern energy systems. Beyond academia, he has played a leading role in several high-impact collaborative projects with key industry partners in Ontario, such as the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO), Alectra Utilities, Toronto Hydro, and Enwave. These initiatives have focused on advancing the adoption of smart grid applications, improving urban energy infrastructure, and exploring innovative market mechanisms to support a more dynamic and decentralized grid. Amr is the author and co-author of more than 30 peer-reviewed publications and technical reports, spanning both academic journals and industry conferences. He is also an inventor on a granted U.S. patent related to energy systems innovation. He is a licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in the province of Ontario and a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), reflecting his sustained contributions to the profession and commitment to excellence in the power and energy community.
