This course discusses procedures and equipment used in electric utility pole climbing. Pole climbing is necessary in the construction and maintenance of overhead electrical distribution infrastructure, and is not difficult or hazardous when caution is used in selecting, fitting, and maintaining rigging and climbing equipment. Also discussed in this course is the topic of pole top rescue, and procedures used to perform pole top and bucket truck rescues on any project. Topics: • Purpose and maintenance of climbing equipment • Procedures utilized for climbing power poles. • Purpose and maintenance of rigging tools. • Knots and hitches utilized in pole climbing. • Different climbing techniques. • Procedures utilized during pole top and bucket truck rescue. Intended Audience: This course is intended for Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, and other engineers whose job description requires a general knowledge of utility pole climbing procedures and pole rescue procedures.
