Alabama professional engineers are required to complete 15 PDH each year by December 31st. A maximum of 15 PDH may be carried forward into the next renewal period.

Alaska’s professional engineers are required to complete 24 PDH by December 31 of odd numbered years.

A maximum of 12 PDH may be carried forward into the next renewal period.

Arkansas Professional Engineers are required to complete 15 PDH every year by December 31st.

Delaware professional engineers are required to complete 24 PDH every other year by June 30th. A minimum of 2 PDH up to a maximum of 6 PDH must be related to professional ethics. A maximum of 9 PDH can be related to project management or business skills and the remaining hours must be technical courses related to the licensee’s practice.

All licensed PEs in Florida are required to complete 18 hours of continuing education (CE) in order to renew their licenses. Rule 61G15-22.001, F.A.C., requires 18 hours of continuing education to include one hour of Florida laws and rules, one hour of professional ethics, and four hours of area of practice.

Georgia engineers must complete 30 PDH by December 31 of even numbered years.

A maximum of 15 PDH may be carried forward into the next renewal period.

Idaho requires engineers to complete 30 PDH every other year.

A maximum of 30 PDH may be carried forward into the next renewal period.

Illinois engineers are required to complete 30 PDH by November 30 of odd numbered years.

Hours cannot be carried forward into the next renewal period.

Registered professional engineers are required to complete thirty (30) hours of continuing education with at least one (1) hour in ethics and one (1) hour in Indiana statutes and rules in order to renew a professional engineer registration.

Iowa engineers are required to complete 30 PDH every other year ending on December 31st. At least 2 of the hours must be in the area of professional ethics.

A maximum of 15 PDH may be carried forward into the next renewal period.

Kansas engineers are required to complete 30 PDH every other year by April 30th. If the licensee exceeds the requirements in any renewal period, the licensee may carry a maximum of 15 PDH forward into the next renewal period.

Kentucky engineers are required to complete 30 PDH every other year by June 30th. A maximum of 15 hours may be carried over to the next reporting period.

Courses shall have “subject matter which is technical in nature or addresses business management practices, professional ethics, quality assurance, codes or other similar topics which facilitate the registrant’s professional development as a professional engineer or professional land surveyor, and/or serves to safeguard life, health, property and promote the public welfare.”

For renewal cycles beginning on or after January 1, 2017 engineers must complete the mandated hours using the following guidelines:

Maine engineers are required to complete 30 PDH every other year ending on December 31 of odd-numbered years.

A maximum of 15 PDH may be carried forward into the next renewal period.

In Maryland, professional engineers are required to complete 16 professional development hours every two years. At least 1 PDH must be from an ethics related topic. The board allows a maximum of 8 hours of credit to be carried forward to the next licensing term. Engineering licenses are renewed every two years on the last day of the month from the date of issue.

Michigan professional engineers who have held a license between 12-24 months are required to complete 15 PDH for their first renewal. Michigan professional engineers who have held a license for more than 24 months are required to complete 30 PDH every two years. Michigan professional engineer licenses are renewed every even year on October 31.

Minnesota professional engineers are required to complete 24 PDH every two years. 2 PDH must be on the topic of engineering ethics. Minnesota professional engineer licenses are renewed every even year on June 30.

Mississippi professional engineers are required to complete 15 PDH every year. 1 PDH must be on ethics training every two years. Mississippi professional engineer licenses are renewed every year on December 31.

Missouri engineers are required to complete 30 PDH every other year by December 31st.

A maximum of 15 PDH may be carried forward into the next renewal period.

Montana engineers are required to complete 30 PDH every other year by June 30 of even-numbered years.

A maximum of 15 PDH may be carried forward into the next renewal period.

Nebraska professional engineers are required to complete 30 PDH biennially. Online self-study courses and other self-study continuing education is limited to 25% of the hours submitted (7.5 hours per renewal cycle). A maximum of 15 PDH may be carried forward into the next renewal period.

Nevada engineers are required to complete 30 PDH every other year. The deadline is January 1 or July 1, depending on your last name.

A maximum of 15 PDH may be carried forward into the next renewal period.

New Hampshire professional engineers are required to complete 30 PDH biennially. The board specifically lists internet-based courses as acceptable. There is no limit on the number of credits that may be earned using online courses.

All New Jersey professional engineers must complete 24 hours of continuing education during each 2-year license renewal cycle.

Two of the 24 CPC hours must be earned in professional ethics. As many as 12 hours may be carried over into the following renewal cycle.

New Mexico engineers are required to complete 30 PDH every other year by December 31st. At least 2 PDH must be ethics/business related.

A maximum of 15 PDH may be carried forward into the next renewal period.

Every licensee shall obtain 15 PDH units during the renewal period. If a licensee exceeds the annual requirement in any renewal period, a maximum of 15 PDH units may be carried forward into the subsequent renewal period. 

North Dakota professional engineers are required to complete 30 PDH biennially.

At least 20 PDH must be in technical areas that directly safeguard the public’s health, safety, and welfare including technical professional management subjects, such as total quality process or technical engineering. A maximum of 10 PDH may be in non-technical professional management subjects, such as ethics or administration-oriented courses.

Ohio professional engineers are required to complete 30 PDH biennially. Courses must cover material which is technical, ethical, or managerial content relevant to the practice of engineering. Business skills, personal development skills, computer skills unrelated to the practice of engineering, and subjects that are considered elementary or entry-level and normally expected to have been completed by a PE prior to registration are not accepted. The Board may require additional information to prove that courses covering managerial skills are relevant to the engineer’s practice.

During each biennial renewal cycle, two of the 30 required PDH must be in the area of engineering ethics or laws and rules related to the profession of engineering.

Oklahoma professional engineers are required to complete 30 PDH biennially. Continuing educational activities used to earn PDHs must have a “clear purpose and objective for each activity, which will maintain, improve or expand skills and knowledge obtained prior to initial licensure or to develop new and relevant skills and knowledge” and “must be relevant to the practice of engineering and/or land surveying as applicable and may include technical, ethical or managerial content.”

Oregon professional engineers are required to complete 30 PDH every other year.

A maximum of 15 PDH may be carried forward into the next renewal period.

South Carolina engineers are required to complete 30 PDH every other year by June 30th of even years.

A maximum of 15 PDH may be carried forward into the next renewal period.

South Dakota engineers are required to complete 30 PDH every other year.

A maximum of 15 PDH may be carried forward into the next renewal period.

Tennessee engineers are required to complete 24 PDH every other year. 13 PDH must address health, safety and welfare issues and technical competency.

A maximum of 12 PDH may be carried forward into the next renewal period.

Texas engineers are required to complete 15 PDH every year, including 1 PDH of ethics.

A maximum of 14 PDH may be carried forward into the next renewal period.

Utah engineers are required to complete 30 PDH every other year by March 31 of odd-numbered years.

A maximum of 15 PDH may be carried forward into the next renewal period.

Vermont professional engineers are required to complete 30 PDH biennially. Courses shall have content areas aimed at maintaining, improving, or expanding the skill set and knowledge relevant to the licensee’s field and methods of engineering practice.

Virginia engineers are required to complete 16 PDH every other year.

No hours may be carried forward into the next renewal period.

West Virginia engineers are required to complete 30 PDH by December of even numbered years.

A maximum of 15 PDH may be carried forward into the next renewal period.

Wisconsin engineers are required to complete 30 PDH every other year by July 31 of even-numbered years.

A maximum of 15 PDH may be carried forward into the next renewal period.

2 PDH must be in the area of ethics and a minimum of 13 PDH must be in a classroom or webinar (interaction with an instructor).

Wyoming professional engineers are required to complete 30 PDH every other year by December 31.

A maximum of 15 PDH may be carried forward into the next renewal period.
